You'd think a writer would have better communication skills, LOL!

September's Contest winner was Tara from Trenton, Georgia
October's Contest winner was Rose from Salem, Massachusetts

November's contest winner has just been drawn and I'm waiting to hear from that lucky person before I post their name.

As usual I'm writing away. I'm working on my next release for Ellora's Cave called Someone To Watch. It's going to be a m/m/f menage. Our heroine is going to find herself the object of lust and love for two sexy shapeshifters. She's also going to be fighting for her life. There's another guy out there who wants what she's got and he's not happy taking no for an answer. Our heros are going to have their hands full, not only of their woman and each other, but danger as well.

On November 18th I did a booksigning at the New & Olde Pages Bookshoppe in Englwood, Ohio. When I signed up for it I was told that one other Ellora's Cave author would be there, JC Wilder. When I called a few days before the signing to see if I needed to bring anything special, I was told not only was JC Wilder going to be there but Lori Foster, Dianne Castell, C.N. Eagle and Patricia (please forgive me, I'm drawing a total blank here, I'm lucky I remember my own name sometimes) a sweet, lovely, soft spoken author who was a total joy to meet. I'm going to get her last name and post it next time, I promise.

At any rate I had a wonderful time. I loved meeting some of my readers and signing books for them. It was also great to meet some fellow authors. I have to say that Lori Foster is one of my favorite authors so I was thrilled to meet her. She's vocal and fun. Dianne Castell was so upbeat and encouraging, J. C. has a biting wit, C. N. Eagle was doing his first signing and did very well. He was kind of quiet and nervous but when it came to talking to readers he did really well and as I said earlier, Patricia was really sweet and enthusiastic. And me? I started out as a nervous wreck but when the readers came in my mouth was running a mile a minute. Nerves equal talk, I guess. It didn't hurt that I had my mom with me. She's my anchor and the voice of reason when I get loopy. Don't know when I'll do another signing but maybe I'll break my vow of 'never again' that I was chanting before the signing began. You just never know when you might end up enjoying something that totally terrified you, LOL!

Until next time, take care.

Kate

A Few Scattered Thoughts As I Start A New Book

I'm a writer. Although I've never been the kind of person who could sit and write day after day in a diary, this blog is here so I thought I'd use it. Quite honestly, for the most part, my doings are not worthy of note. I'm the kind of quiet, unassuming person you wouldn't look twice at in Walmart and yes, I admit I go to Walmart. I'll do you one better, I actually used to work at Walmart.

Oh yes, I held the dreaded job of trying to please the uncouthed masses. If you've never worked in retail, consider yourself lucky. I don't actually want to talk about shopping though. I want to talk about the people who shop. Let's start with you. That's right you. Each and every one of you.

When you're tooling through the store picking up this and that, what do you think about? Your kids? Your job? That great movie you just saw? That great sex you hope you can talk your significant other into tonight? The fact that you just broke your fingernail? It doesn't really matter what in particular you're thinking about but just consider this. Every other person in the store is thinking too. Every head in the store contains a biological computer that has electrical currents firing with thoughts forming and flying all over the place.

Isn't that amazing? Good golly! There are actually thoughts behind those faces? In some cases it's just plain scary. In my case at this moment? It's... obscure. Why am I writing all this? Because I just finished some very intense edits and I'm giving my brain a rest before I go back to the next book. Actually, I'm procrastinating but for a very good reason. Putting the end to one book and starting a new one by looking at a page that says chapter one and nothing else can be intimidating, exciting, frustrating, challenging and terrifying but in the end, just plain necessary. I'm a writer.

Footnote: It is a documented fact that writers are a strange bunch and sometimes noted for their incomprehensible ramblings. Pat them on the head, give them a cookie and set them back in front of their computers. All will be well.

August's Contest Winner & More

As usual I'm running behind in announcing winners and passing on news. The winner of my August 'Apples and Cinnamon' contest was Sharon B. of Albequerque, New Mexico. Congratulations Sharon!

As far as news well, September is nearing it's end. The fourth book in my Bond of the Maleri' series with Changeling Press, Ride 'Em Cowboy, made it's appearance and thanks to you all is doing very well.

October brings my new release from Changeling, a partly paranormal, contemporary, serious yet comedic book with a slight Halloween flavor. Is that even possible you ask? Well...yeah! The book is called Why Did The Chicken? and is a male/male romance. Why Did The Chicken? will be available October 21st and here's a short blurb:

What happens when Cupid passes the task of matchmaker over to a mischievous shape shifting imp? Chaos. Pure chaos. Adjinxska reinvents herself and becomes Jinx the cat. As Halloween approaches she’s ready to dole out a few tricks and treats.

From afar, Morgan has admired his sexy, new, next door neighbor but he’s convinced Rich would never be interested in him. It’s going to take a series of Jinx inspired tricks and the intervention of a gun toting bank robber in a chicken suit to finally convince Morgan that not only is Rich interested, he’s the man of Morgan’s dreams.

That's just a small glimpse, hope you enjoy it!

Contest Winners! I've been so, so busy lately. I just finished reading the galley proof for the print version of TO TRUST A WOLF from Ellora's Cave. I have to say I still like that book. I'm doing proofs now for the third in my BOND OF THE MALERI' series from Changeling Press. It's called BETWEEN LOVE AND LAW and has a tentative release date of July 21st. I'm also doing second round edits of MALE OF THE SPECIES my m/m erotic romance for Ellora's Cave and hoping for a July release date.
I've also taken my first hesitant steps toward my first books signings. August is the fated month. The 19th will see me at Borders Express, Midway Mall in Elyria, Ohio, the 20th I'll be at Borders Express, Chapel Hill Mall, Akron OH and the 26th will see me at New and Olde Pages Book Shoppe in Englewood, OH. I'll post more details soon. Anyone living in these areas, come and see me! I'd love to meet you and there will be other Ellora's Cave authors there as well. For a list of participants check out the Ellora's Cave website at www.ellorascave.com
Gotta get back to work. I got absolutely no writing done at all. After going to bed at 5 a.m., I got up at 10 a.m. to get ready for the day. First task, drop my brother at the airport. Second task, which was actually a pleasure, found me at my favorite bookstore in town where I bought Christine Feehan's, Dark Demon, an anthology including Kim Harrison, Lynsay Sands, Kelley Armstrong, and Lori Handeland entitled, Dates From Hell and last but never least, Angela Knight's Master of Wolves, which I have been impatiently waiting for. Third task, grocery etc. shopping at the local Walmart, where I used to work, lol, and then as a treat, I stopped at Friches for a Big Boy and onion rings. Yummy! By the time I got home it was almost 5 p.m., twelve hours gone by in my day and not one spent in front of my computer. That's major weird for me.

As it turns out, when I turned on my computer and the e-mail starting clamoring for attention, I almost wish I'd foregone the pleasure of sitting at my desk again. There awaiting me, was a rejection from the first agent I've ever queried about representing me. "Sigh." Before I opened the e-mail I said a quick prayer. "Please, God, no matter what it says, help me to remember that I'm a good writer, that there are people out there who like what I write." Well, all I can say is, He was listening. When I checked my Kate Steele e-mail addy, there was a message from Romance Reviews Today. They had given my book "The Orb of Atrios" their award for Best Book of 2005 in the Erotic Romance catagory!!

I am walking on air. And as for that not so great news, well, we all have to take the good with the bad. Yes? Have a great day everyone.

Kate

Come Visit with Sasha White

I checked Sasha's website to gather some info on her books and have to say it. Wow! Sasha is multi-published, with Amber Quill Press and Liquid Silver Books being among her publishers. Sasha is a self-described waitress/bartender at night and struggling writer during the day. From the looks of her many titles, her struggles are paying off. Sasha is going to share her experience of receving The Call.

THE CALL stories are some of the most inspirational things a struggling writer can hear. However, mine is a bit different. You see, I've never received a call from an editor I'd submitted to where they say. "Hi, this is___ with ___ and I'd like to buy your book." I have however, received a few letters that were something like that. *ggg*My first one ever was from Virgin Books, the Black Lace Erotica line. That was three years ago. After concentrating on short stories for a while I decided to try something longer. Harlequin Temptation rejected my first novel because of my writing style. However, take heart, even rejected ms's can go on to sell. That novel was GYPSY HEART, which not only later received 4 stars from Romantic Times Book Club, and a pleasing 81 from Mrs. Giggles, but it also taught me to be true to my own voice, and my own style. There were a few more e-book sales, again, all through email. No phone calls for me. My first call came after I'd emailed Roberta Brown with a proposal for a manuscript to be shopped around. Again, after a couple of emails, she agreed to represent me! Then, she called me!!! Even though I knew the call was coming, it was thrill. It made the whole thrilling situation real for me. The call was just a get to know you thing. We talked about my future and what we were going to do with my proposal. She agreed to shop it around immediately. My heart pounded so hard I kept my hand on my chest to hold it in the whole time. I was a bit prepared for it because I knew the call was coming, and I actually took notes. Mind you, I didn't know what the notes meant a day later. LOL After that, the next phone call I received was again, from Roberta. And I got it as a message on my voice mail. I'd just finished working a lunch shift, and was excited to go home and write. Funny how serving tables always makes me eager to work on building my career away from the hospitality industry. Anyway, I stepped out the door of the lounge, and was walking home from work. I pulled out my cell phone. My only phone and checked my messages. I literally stopped in my tracks on the sidewalk when I heard Roberta's voice announcing a sale to Kensington! I hung up to call her back right away, and the phone rang in my hand. Roberta. As I walked home, amidst a huge windstorm, she told me about John Scognamiglio, from Kensington. He loved my partial!! The next day John called me to introduce himself, and we spoke briefly about the novella. Since then, I've received more emails from Roberta. One announcing the sale of a single title to Cindy Hwang at Berkley, and another telling me John wanted another novella for Kensington.Despite the fact that I've been published for a few years, the last month has been absolutely amazing. I'm here to tell you, don't sit by the phone. The Call isn't the only way you can get great news, and dancing around your house like an idiot after receiving an email isn't as embarrassing as screaming into someone's ear on the phone, but it is just as magical.

***********

After reading about Sasha's experience, I was left chuckling and I'm about to go tackle my agent proposal again. I feel inspired! Thanks Sasha! Continueing with Sasha's visit, she agreed to answer a few unusual question I came up with. Check out her answers:

***********

If you could, what kind of paranormal creature would you choose to be?

A witch. *grin* I'd like to be able to have all sorts of neat spells and options.

What kind of paranormal creature would you most like to have sex with? One of THE PETSHANI! They're in my new series by that name at AQP. An ancient Gypsy race of pleasure givers. (I've been to Nepal, South Africa, Swaziland, Mozambique, Mexico, Ireland, Scotland, Greece)

What place in any authors imaginary world would you visit?

TRITON, it's one of my own worlds created for my Sci-fi series ABDUCTION... It's a planet where women rule. :)

Military, firefighters, law enforcement or other profession. Who gets your juices flowing?

Military or Private Security. Yummm.

What quality do you find to be most important in a lover?

Attentiveness, but not clingyness.

What quality is most important in yourself?

Independence.

***********

A heartfelt thank-you to Sasha for visiting today. A self proclaimed writing hermit, Jan has made good use of her time. Multi-published, with Ellora's Cave, Jan has nine single author titles, and has participated in two anothologys including one of EC's wildly popular Cavemen Anthologys. She also has two titles available from New Concepts Publishing. Her talent has not gone unnoticed. Her books, "A Hero's Welcome", "A Hero's Escape" and "A Hit Man for Hannah", have been nominated for Sizzler Awards. She herself was nominated for Best Author in 2004 by the very popular review site, Fallen Angel Reviews. Her book "Love Through A Strangers Eyes" saw her nominated as an Eppie Finalist, which is quite an accomplishment! Available May 17 from Ellora's Cave, Jan has kindly consented to share an excerpt from her upcoming release, "Colter's Revenge", third in her Outlaw Lovers series.

Colter’s Revenge – Outlaw Lovers
By Jan Springer
Ellora’s Cave – coming May 2006

Prologue
The Terrorist Wars
Bagdad, Iraq
General Black’s Mansion
Spring, 2016

“How’s it feel to have two cocks buried inside you, Starry Eyes? Does it live up to your ménage à trois fantasies?”
Ashley Blakely shivered at Dr. Colter Outlaw’s soft question. Trembled at the unbelievable fullness of having his massive length impaling her soaked pussy and his friend Blade’s thick, lubed cock nestled deep inside her rear.
She wished she could answer him, but the erotic way Colter’s finger rubbed against her engorged clit made it really hard to concentrate on answering. Not to mention her wrists burned beneath the silky scarves holding her hostage and her shoulders were beginning a seductive ache at being strung up by the arms.
“She’s at a loss for words,” Blade chuckled from behind her.
His hard chest pressed firmly against her back. Steel-like muscular arms encircled her torso as his long, eager fingers busily pulled and squeezed her sensitive nipples until she cried out from the pleasure-burn.
Colter’s gaze met hers. In the depths of his green eyes she recognized the fierce love. The raw hunger for her. The look always made her catch her breath and her heart race.
The last thing she’d ever expected was for the ruggedly handsome soldier Dr. Colter Outlaw to take her seriously when she’d shyly answered his question a couple of days ago regarding what her number one sexual fantasy would be. She’d admitted it was a ménage à trois.
Having only met him several weeks ago when he’d come to live at the mansion and attend to the general after he’d suffered an almost fatal gunshot wound, she’d been shocked at the sizzling attraction that had quickly cumulated between her and the doctor. With the general temporarily out of commission, she’d had a meager strand of freedom available to her, enabling her to talk with the doctor about the advances in the medical profession concerning the X-virus.
He’d been surprised when she’d admitted she’d wanted to train to be a gynecologist back in the States, but had limited telling him the entire truth of how her stepbrother Dr. Blakely, the man who’d actually invented the original X-virus that had killed so many women, had sold her to the Army because she’d rejected his advances. The general had purchased her and she’d become his sex slave in Iraq. The soldier doctor didn’t need to know the horrors of her past. It would only put a damper on things. Especially now that she was enjoying the best sex in her twenty-five years of life.
At first, she’d been stunned when earlier that evening the general had left the compound for the first time in weeks. Colter had also disappeared for a couple of hours only to reappear with the awesomely tall, darkly tanned stranger named Blade. Quite a looker, almost too beautiful for a man to be. He had sensitive eyes the color of chocolate pudding and golden blond hair that flowed to his shoulders like a lion’s mane.
The sexual hunger brewing in Blade’s eyes had just about made her come on the spot. It hadn’t been hard to allow both the stranger and Colter to make her fantasies come true.
When she’d been sold into slavery, she’d learned quickly to live on the edge. To take each day as if it could be her last. And that’s exactly what she’d been doing since the soldier doctor had come into her life.
“I want you to come away with us, Ashley.” Colter whispered in her ear as he began a slow, erotic plunge that made her quivering vagina wrap tighter around him. Her heart picked up a frantic beat at his words. She belonged to one of the most powerful general’s in the United States Army. It would be a death sentence for both Colter and Blade if she went with them.
“She’s so unbelievably tight,” Blade hissed as he started a perfect thrusting rhythm that had her moaning at the powerful way his cock stretched her anal muscles, muscles that had been well maintained by the general’s butt plugs and sadistic toys.
“We can get you out of here, Starry Eyes,” he was whispering so low she could barely hear him.
“I…I…can’t. The general…he’d kill you.”
She winced at the pleasure-burn as Blade’s hard erection slammed deep up inside her ass again.
“He’ll never know.”
“He’ll know. He owns me. I can’t simply go with you.” she cried, desperation mixing with the wonderful fullness of Blade’s hard cock nudging deeper into her anal channel.
As if disappointed with her answer Colter’s thrusts became harder, harsher, more desperate. More arousing. Blade seemed to sense his friend’s change in mood and became gentler with his own seductive plunges.
“I don’t care. I want you with me.”
“He’ll know you took me. He’ll kill you both. God! Don’t talk about this now.”
She could barely stand. Without the silky scarf restraints holding her arms up, she would have melted to the floor by now. She was literally exhausted from the shattering orgasms the two men had blessed her with through the night. Perspiration dripped from her forehead. Tremors laced her aroused body. Erotic shivers made her wonder if she would ever be able to go back to her life of sadistic sex without orgasms with the general.
“We’ll all be safe,” Colter ground out between clenched teeth. She could feel his body tightening, sensed his time was near. Felt the blossom of yet another violent climax taking root deep inside her belly.
She hated the general more than anything and she wanted to be with Colter so badly it hurt. Wanted him to take her from this horrible life of being a sex slave to a sadistic American general.
But the last thing she wanted was for Colter or anyone else, for that matter, to be hunted down for stealing her. Deep inside her heart she knew she would never be able to live the same way after her experience with this ruggedly handsome soldier doctor and his friend.
The orgasm snowballed. Excitement roared through her. Her fingernails dug painfully into her palms.
Oh, my God! This one was going to be the biggest of them all!
“Come with me, Starry Eyes. Please say yes.” The desperation in his voice, the excitement at the proposal of being free roared through her and tangled with the pleasure, snapping her hold on common sense.
“Yes…yes… I’ll come with you,” she hissed against his tasty mouth.
Colter’s nostrils flared wildly at her answer and a most erotic smile tipped his lips.
“Fuck! You are so beautiful, Starry Eyes,” he ground out, and his succulent mouth warmly captured hers, sending her spiraling into the splintering orgasm.
He took her hard. Harder than he’d ever taken her during the times they’d secretly been together. She cried out as he plunged his huge, thick cock so deep inside of her vagina, it unleashed a torrent of erotic sensations that slammed into her like she was on a roller coaster of pleasure-pain.
She found herself stiffening with erotic fervor then convulsing against the two men. Pumping her hips frantically against Colter’s thrusts and bucking backward into Blade’s rock-hard cock.
The scent of their sex spun beneath her nostrils. The sounds of flesh slapping against flesh drifted past her ears and intermingled with the grunts and groans of the two soldiers.
She became lost in her carnal delirium. Barely felt the two thick cocks sliding in and out of her as both men frantically attained their own satisfaction.
Panting for air, she held on for dear life as the sensual euphoria gripped her and dragged her under.

http://www.ellorascave.com/AuthorsBooks.asp?AuthorCode=JSp
http://janspringer.com

Whoa! I had to wipe the steam from my glasses before I could continue! Okay, I'll admit it, a menage with two guys like Colter and Blade would be my favorite fantasy come true. I predict I'm going to have a new addition to my Microsoft Reader come May 17th LOL!

Like the good sport she is, Jan also consented to answer a few unusual question I dreamed up just for fun. Check it out:

If you could, what kind of paranormal creature would you choose to be?

A shapeshifter. I’d love to be a fly on the wall *wink* or fly over people’s backyards like a bird – hmm I am sensing my Peeping Tom side showing.

What kind of paranormal creature would you most like to have sex with?

Oh that’s a toughie. I’d say a werewolf. They sound like very good lovers.

Menages - Given the opportunity, would you?

Most definitely. *grin*

Who would you share your menage with? Anyone in particular?

Well since I’m shy I would probably want them to be strangers. Two guys. Of course well hung and they have to know how to pleasure me. I’m not selfish but I’d want it to be a memorable experience. So they definitely have to be good pleasure men. LOL.

Bondage - Yes or no and how far would you go?

Well maybe a little light bondage. I wouldn’t go too far. I have trust issues. But if the right guy or guys came along…who knows how far.

Night or Day - Which is your favorite? I love the day. It allows me to go for long nature walks with the sunshine on my face or if it’s raining I enjoy walking in the rain too.

Afternoon delight, or moonlight madness. What's the best time for sex?

Definitely afternoon delight. Lots of natural light – if you know what I mean? *grin*

What place in the real world would you most like to visit?

Hawaii. Ever since the series Magnum P.I. I’ve wanted to go to Hawaii. The beaches look luscious and I absolutely love the ocean. Not to mention I’d love to try surfing and scuba diving and exploring the islands.

What place in any authors imaginary world would you visit?

Oh yes! This one is easy! LOL. I would so love to be in the Kidnap Fantasies world. My series at Ellora’s Cave. Anything goes in Kidnap Fantasies. I mean anything!!!

Military, firefighters, law enforcement or other profession. Who gets your juices flowing?

Construction workers. Naturally tanned by the sun. Lots of muscles from all that hard work. And they are nice and sweaty. A good excuse for taking lots of showers with him or them.

What quality do you find to be most important in a lover?

Well he has to know how to pleasure a woman. So I’d say he needs to have really good hands. Callused fingers might be a good thing too and of course he has to be well hung.

What quality is most important in yourself?

Being able to please and fulfill someone – sexually, spiritually and emotionally. But I’d want that in return too.

Great questions, Kate!!!
Thanks so much for inviting me over!

Hugs,

Jan

And thank you, Jan, for sharing your time and talent with us! In it I found the most wonderful line: "It'd take one hell of a man to be better than no man at all. " Doesn't that say it all? With Ellora's Cave Publishing, she currently has twelve, single author titles and has participated in one Caveman Anthology. Check out her latest EC release "Spells and Seduction" third in her Imortal Secrets series. She also has two titles with Echelon Press and one with Changeling Press. Recognized for her outstanding work, she was a Capa nominee in 2004 and 2005, an Eppie finalist in 2005 and her book, Ellora's Cave release "Tempting Fate", was a Romantic Times Bookclub Magazine Top Pick in January of 2006! Quite an amazing record and she's still going strong. Tawny has recently sold two books to New York publishing house, Kensington Books. What follows is Tawny's story of how she got the call.

***********

My big “Call” came on the day I’d least expected it. It was summertime. I’d received a lot of bad news lately, and I was getting frustrated. I was dreaming. Getting a New York deal was not going to happen. It was time to face the truth.

I decided to take the kids somewhere fun to try to drag myself out of the pits. We packed up and went to a local farm. We spent the day feeding goats and running from snapping geese<g>. The hubby called me just as I was loading my exhausted, hungry crew back into the car.

Hubby: “Your agent called. Someone wants to buy your book.”
Me: “Ha-ha! Quit joking. It’s not nice to mess with a writer’s head like that.”
Hubby: “I’m not kidding. Your agent called and left a message. Kensington wants to buy your book. It’s all here. You need to call him back.”

The phone call went something like that. I probably said, “Oh my God” a few dozen times. I just remember it took a while for reality to sink in. And then I quickly forgot the way home.

The twenty minute drive took forever, mostly because I’d lose track of where I was going and take a wrong turn. But the minute I got in the house, I snatched up the yellow piece of paper the message had been scribbled on and ran to call my agent.

It was real! Not some cruel joke. Kensington wanted not just one book but two! I listened, I blabbered. I can’t remember all the details. I did a little dance. Told my hubby. He decided how he’d spend our first million. The kids got into the act. It was difficult to break the news to them all that we weren’t going to be able to move to Disney World or buy a fleet of ‘Vettes. Hubby took the news okay. The kids...well, they’ll get over it. Eventually.

Then, hubby, being the man I love, called everyone he knew that had ever voiced their doubt in my ability to sell and proudly told them they’d been wrong.

************

The New York City call is an author's dream come true, one many of us are pursuing. Congratulations Tawny!!! I also want to thank her for answering the following questions. Just a little something I thought might be fun. I definitely got a chuckle out of them.

*************

If you could, what kind of paranormal creature would you choose to be?

I’m a practical thinker, even when fantasizing. Would either a witch or genie count as a paranormal creature? I’d love to be able to snap my fingers and have all the mess in my house cleaned up, laundry done and folded, dinner cooked, kids fed and tucked into bed, and hot bath filled.

What kind of paranormal creature would you most like to have sex with?
I think vampires are uber-sexy! YUM!

Menages - Given the opportunity, would you?
In real life? No. I was raised Catholic. Too many guilt issues.

Who would you share your menage with? Anyone in particular?
OY! Can’t think of anyone in real life. But if Hugh Jackman wanted to volunteer, I’d be tempted to take him up on the offer.

Bondage - Yes or no and how far would you go?
Gosh, you’re gonna think I’m so boring, LOL. In fantasy, yes. In reality, heck no. My hubby can’t get a knot out of a tennis shoe lace. Could you just see that? Him having to explain to the police why he’s calling them to get me out of my restraints. “Well, officer, it’s like this. I...uh...chew my nails and so I couldn’t get the knot out...” LOLOL

Night or Day - Which is your favorite?
Time of day? For general purposes? Day. I need sunlight.

Afternoon delight, or moonlight madness. What's the best time for sex?
Sex is another story. I like it dark for sex. After birthing five kids, I’m well past the days of letting any man see my body in the glaring light of day.

What place in the real world would you most like to visit?
Any and all parts of Europe, especially Germany.

What place in any authors imaginary world would you visit?
Another tough one. Almost all the books I’ve read are set in contemporary times, in the U.S.. However, I’d love to travel back in time. I’m a huge costuming buff. LOVE sewing costumes. My hubby says I was born in the wrong century. So, I’d love to go back to Victorian England and see what that was really like. I’m sure my romanticized version of the time period is better than the reality was, but it would still be cool to find out.

Military, firefighters, law enforcement or other profession. Who gets your juices flowing?
All of the above. I’m a typical girl--love a man in uniform!

What quality do you find to be most important in a lover?
Patience.

What quality is most important in yourself?
Loyalty.

Thank you so much, Tawny, for sharing with us! For the third time, one of my two love birds has knocked my new picture off the wall. Fortunately it hangs over my bed, so no damage is done, still I keep wondering if love bird tastes anything like cornish game hen. Anybody got a good recipe? Or maybe I should just let the cat in? Just Kidding! I love my little guys, Holly on the left, Cady(the demon bird) on the right and Louie outside looking for a colorful and tempting snack. LOL. Pets are blessings and pains, but mostly, I think, you gotta love em.

Another new book coming soon!

By Blood's Decree
To Be Published By Loose-Id
http://www.loose-id.com/
By Kate Steele

Dana Hamilton has a few problems; healing powers that make her blood ambrosial for vampires, self-renewing virginity and a sexy vampire who not only makes her doubt her preconceived notion that all vamps are evil, but brings out her desires with a capitol D.

Nicholas Grey, a century’s old vampire has a few problems of his own, like retaining his soul and convincing Dana that he’s a being to be trusted. Deciding to broach the subject, Del placed her elbows on the table and leaned towards her friend with an intent expression on her face. “About that no ambition thing?” She said smiling somewhat sheepishly.
“Yeah?” Jess inquired softly.
“ I do have certain...” Del hesitated, “I don’t think you could call them ambitions exactly, more like desires, I guess.”
Jess waited expectantly, but when Del refused to elaborate, she prompted sternly with, “Spill it girl.”
“Liberated women everywhere would shudder in disgust at what I’m about to say.” she temporized. “Including you.”
With a quirk of her lips and a raised eyebrow, Jess sat back in her seat, “As you’ve just pointed out,” she said, “I’m a liberated woman, part of which includes the fact that I keep an open mind. Now quit stalling.”
“All right, it’s just that admitting something like this is kind of hard, considering how things are nowadays.” Del eyed her friend with some trepidation and began. “First of all I want to be married. I want a man who’s confidant and strong, a real alpha type. I want him to dominate me when I need it, but also be gentle when I need that. A man who wants me so much that we burn the sheets up every morning and every night and any hours in between. I want to be a sex object for my husband and a love object and a lust object and a support object and whatever other kind of object he need me to be.” Taking another breath she continued, “Not that I’m an object or that he would treat me as anything other than a person deserving of love and respect.”
Del paused for a moment but obviously had more to add. Jess, her expression impassive, nodded in understanding “Go on.”
Wading in again Del went on. “I want to have children. I’d like my husband to be like my dad was with me, fun, and kind and loving but willing to discipline when needed. My kids are not going to be like so many of the brats you see today who have no manners and no respect for anyone, especially their parents.” She paused biting her lip, “And one final thing.”
“There’s more?” Jess inquired with a bland smile.
Del dropped her voice to a near whisper, “Oh yeah, the real betrayal of women’s liberation.” She paused dramatically her eyes widening, head shaking in the negative, “I don’t want a career. I want to stay home and raise my children and take care of my husband and my home and garden and stuff like that. I don’t want to worry about bills or money or insurance or taxes or any of that other stuff. Pretty awful huh?”
Del dropped back in her seat, resignedly watching her friend for her reaction. Jess leaned forward, her eyes determinedly meeting Del’s. “My first question is, does calling this alpha male master come into this anywhere?
“Heck no!” Del scoffed. “It’s not about a dominant/submissive lifestyle, although I’m sure a little d/s would be fun during appropriate moments.” she laughed at Jess’s raised eyebrow. “I’d be the first to admit that I have a submissive personality as you, my friend, should well know considering you are a dominant. But no, I don’t want my every move or decision dictated to me. Especially if it’s something really important.”
“Well then..., ok.” Jess stated.
“Ok? Is that it?” Del found herself surprised not to be on the receiving end of some heavy duty chastisement.
“Yeah, ok.” Jess repeated. “Look, everyone has needs and desires and thank God, their a pretty varied lot. What you want out of life and what I want may be different, but that doesn’t mean that one is any better than the other.” She paused thoughtfully, “If that’s what makes you happy, go for it.” Jess stated firmly. “I see only one problem here.”
“And that would be...?” Del queried.
“Where are you going to find this paragon of an alpha male?” Jess answered her with an inquiring look.
“That,” Del replied with a grimace, “is definitely a problem.”
Air cleared, harmony restored, and stomachs filled, the girls returned to their shopping. As they wandered the carpeted isles, their conversation returned to less intense subject matter. They discussed Jessie’s redecorating project and continued to search for the antique furnishings Jess wanted for her bedroom.
“I think, I’m in love.” Jess stopped in one of the more spacious booths and was now examining a carved oak headboard with matching footboard. “This is it, this is what I’ve been searching for.”
“Well don’t say it too loud or you’ll never even get a chance to haggle and believe me, you want to haggle the price on this one.” Del had picked up the price tag and examined it with a low whistle.
Displaying it to Jess she said, “You got your work cut out for you on this one girl.”
Jess waved her hand with a negligent flip. “Who got them to drop fifty bucks on that koala bear cookie jar you just had to have? Never doubt the skills baby.”
Del chuckled as she watched Jess make her way to the front desk. Feeling sorry for Jess’s intended victim, Del wandered on, knowing that the business at hand would take some time.
She strolled leisurely, giving the merchandise on display only a cursory examination as she pondered the problem of finding her ideal man. Advertise? No. Bar hop? No. Grocery store? No. Internet? No. Each idea was pondered and dismissed. My problem is I’m not aggressive or adventurous enough. And that being the case am I doomed? She unconsciously shrugged her shoulders and paused at the glass enclosed booth on the corner of the isle.
Inside, a man sat behind the counter. Del studied him curiously, recalling that she had seen him occasionally during previous visits. He was tall, with short cropped, dark hair that was shot with gray. His hawk-like features were somewhat hidden by a well trimmed beard and mustache. He seemed absorbed in his study of the book he held in his hands, hands that looked strong, with long tapering fingers.
Just as she had decided to move on and leave him undisturbed, he looked up pinning her with eyes that at first seemed completely black. He beckoned her forward and she felt compelled to follow his unspoken request. A trick of the light, she decided as she got a closer look at his eyes, for she could indeed see a demarcation between pupil and iris. He smiled and she felt an instant affinity with him, returning his with a smile of her own.
“Enjoying your shopping today?” He inquired politely. His voice was melodic, with a soothing quality that made her feel at ease despite the fact that strange men normally made her feel very uneasy.
“Yes, very much so.” Del answered. “You have some interesting looking things here,” she offered, “These crystals are beautiful.”
“There is nothing quite like that which is shaped by natures hand.” He reached into the glass case pulling the tray she indicated and placed it on the counter.
Delilah picked up several of the stones examining them curiously. “This one is lovely,” she indicated, pointing out a particular stone. “I love the amber color.”
He picked it up, holding it upward to catch the light. “It matches the golden flecks in your eyes.” He said softly. Noting her blush and the small flash of unease in her eyes he quickly added, “No disrespect intended basaya.”
Looking into his warm, guileless gaze, Del relaxed asking, “What does that mean? Basaya.”
“It is an old word in an almost forgotten language. It means beauty.”
For some reason Del felt tears prick her eyes. Why did it matter that this man thought her beautiful? It was impossible to analyze the feeling, but knowing he thought well of her was important. She offered a soft thank you.
“I have a very special crystal I wish to show you.” Suiting actions to words, he reached under the counter producing a small velvet wrapped bundle. Pulling aside the wrapping he silently offered it to her.
Opening her hand she felt the weight of it drop into her palm. Never had she seen anything to compare with its beauty. It was an orb, fashioned of a silvery crystal-like substance. It seemed to glow with an inner light. Fine cracks peppered the smooth surface, reflecting multiple images. Del was captivated.
The orb grew warm in her hand and she began to feel something akin to arousal as she stared into the mirrored surface. The heat that centered in her palm shifted to her nether parts and a throbbing beat began deep inside. Need erupted, an involuntary moan passed her parted lips as her inner fire and that of the orbs synchronized and grew in intensity. Aurora borealis colors began to shift and swirl over the surface of the orb, drawing her deeper within its fiery heat. A pearlescent bubble of light grew and enveloped her straining body.
Unable to disconnect herself from the sensual excitement transmitted by the orb, she swayed with the wanton beat of lust coursing through her veins. Her clit vibrated, slick moisture pooled in her vagina as it tightened and throbbed in preparation for orgasm. Before her eyes a figure took form inside the light generated by the orb. It was the man from her dream, he of the sapphire eyes and sinfully majestic body.
“At last tezza,” he groaned, caught in the same trap of desire. “I will come for you in two risings of the moon.” His lungs labored with the effort of speaking through the aching arousal. “Until then release us my own. Take your pleasure, come for me tezza. Now!”
His bellowed command snapped through her taut body. Releasing like an arrow from a bow, her climax swept over her shuddering body, a low wailing cry tearing from deep inside. Light erupted from the pulsing orb, an incandescent flash which began to wane with the lessening ripples of Del’s orgasm.
No longer held upright by the power of the Orb, Del sank slowly to the floor as her knees buckled. Her pounding heart beat began to slow, her panting breaths to steady. Her hand clenched, the fading light was absorbed until a small glow filtered between her fingers and then it too winked out. Opening her hand, Del watched, dazed as the Orb became insubstantial and sank into her open palm disappearing as though it had never been.
Staring at her hand in shock and disbelief, a breathy “What the hell was that?” left her lips. Preparing to be mortally embarrassed for her wanton, albeit involuntary behavior, Del looked around. The man she had been speaking to was gone. The orb-like crystal was gone. The only evidence left to support what had just happened, was the unmistakable wetness that lay between her thighs.

Five Angels From Fallen Angels!

Lions and Tigers and Bears
Hidden Heart, written by Kate Steele, is the tale of Rafe and Lindy. Unfortunately I also have another job that takes too much of my time, but then I'm sure a lot of you know how that is.

The new book "Hidden Heart" saw its launch on Wed the 22nd as part of the "Lions, Tigers & Bears" Anthology. I've had several nice comments on the merits of my hero, Rafe, and I must admit I think he turned in to a very nice guy, not to mention gorgeous! If someone like that showed up in my life, I'd go for it!

I've decided to run a very simple contest and to make it fair for all who can't get to their computers at certain times of the day I'm going to run it three different times during the day.

The prize is a "Get Sensual Bath Basket" which consists of a shower caddy filled with an aroma therapy candle, bath gel, body scrub or body lotion in Waterlily or Honey Pear fragrance, a body massager, set of decorative soap and a net body scrubber. In addition to this, you will also receive a free download of one of my available titles. I know there are only three so far but hey, I just got started!

The contests are going to run on Tuesday June 28th. The times are all Eastern Standard Time. Please adhear to the time frame, no answers sent in early will be considered.

Between 6 a.m and 7 a.m. eastern time, the question is: What is my favorite flower?

Between 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. eastern time, the question is: What is my favorite color?

Between 7 p.m and 8 p.m. eastern time, The question is: What is my favorite food?

Sound simple? It is! I'll notify the list as soon as there is a winner. Whoever wins the first contest won't be eligible for the second or third and whoever wins the second won't be eligible for the last one. It wouldn't be fair for one person to win more than once.

Anyone have any questions? Send them on to me at katesteele27@yahoo.com and I'll get back to you ASAP.

Before I end this message I'd like to welcome Teresa to the group and about your question what's next? Hopefully my new book, "The Orb of Atrios" will be ready for release by August/September from Ellora's Cave.
